Ellis Lincoln Edmands
Ellis was only two and a half months old when his mother died. As a child he lived with his father's parents: Artemas Edmands, 1813-1896 and Margaret M. Wilson Edmands, 1811-1879 (our ancestors). On the census records of 1870 (when he was 2) and 1880 (when he was 12), he is listed as part of their household, the Breakheart Hill Farm on Forest Street in Saugus, Massachusetts.
Sometime prior to 1900 he moved to Rochester, Vermont, where in that year, according to the census records, he was a member of the household of Gideon Eagle. He later had his own farm near Rochester.
Ellis's wife of two years, Emeline Ferris Laurence Edmands, died in 1907, just a couple of weeks after giving birth to their daughter, Margaret Louise. Ellis's father and stepmother took over the raising of the baby.
In the early 1920s, when Ellis's youngest sibling, Ernest Carl Edmands, 1884-1928 (our ancestor), was very ill, Ellis and his second wife, Annie, took in Ernest's young sons, Allan Christie Edmands, 1911-1945 and Ernest John Edmands, 1917-1996, for a couple of years.
No doubt Ellis and Annie were heartbroken when their only child, Margaret, died at the age of 20.
