Thomas Chandler I

Our ancestor Thomas Chandler I was part of the adaptive Humanist Generation. His son was part of the idealistic Reformation Generation.

Thomas was from the eastern Hertfordshire hamlet of Bishop's Stortford. At the time of his birth in 1475, England was enjoying a respite from the turmoil of the Wars of the Roses, with the White Rose King Edward IV more or less secure on the throne. Just 4 years before Thomas's birth, about 15 miles to the southwest, had been fought in the fog the bloody Battle of Barnet. We can speculate that Thomas's father, whose identity we do not know, might have been involved.
